LAKSHMI MAA - THE GODDESS OF WEALTH
Maa Lakshmi is the divine Goddess who grants wealth and prosperity to her devotees. She is both the divine energy and wife of Lord Vishnu. Her devotees are blessed with riches such as cattle, land, gold, mansions, and children. Mata Lakshmi has a pleasing appearance with a pink/red attire & she sits on a beautiful lotus flower. With two pink lotus flowers in two of her hands and blessings in the form of wealth in another, Mata Lakshmi is the accurate representation of a mother’s beauty. Maa Lakshmi, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Parvati form Goddesses’ holy trinity.
According to Hinduism, eight types of goals are necessary for humankind: knowledge, spiritual enlightenment, food, progeny, abundance, patience, resources, and success. Hence there are called the Ashta Lakshmi or eight treasures of humanity. The biggest problem in human life is poverty. In the absence of wealth, man becomes deprived of respect and honor. Thus, these forms of Ashta Laksmi become essential to attaining material wealth and emotional well-being.
LORD KUBER - THE GOD OF WEALTH
The deities that are the providers of these treasures are Lord Kuber, the God of wealth, and Maa Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Mata Lakshmi grants wealth and prosperity, while Kuber is the protector and the giver of all comforts. Kuber is the God of riches, wealth, and prosperity and is the king of the Yakshas who rules from the city of Alkapuri at the foot of Mount Kailash. He is the son of Rishi Vishravas and the half-brother of Ravana. Kuber was king of the southern Golden city of Lanka and owner of the famous Pushpak Vimana (Ancient flying Machine). Lord Kubera, the God of Money, is adorned with jewels, carries a money-pot and a Gada, and rides on a mongoose. Lord Kuber, the treasurer of the world’s riches, is worshiped along with Maa Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Traditionally Shri Kuber is worshipped during Lakshmi Puja on the auspicious day of Diwali (amavasya). During this Puja, people full-heartedly pray to the divine entities for material growth and good health. Lord Kubera is known to be the counterpart and sewak of Maa Lakshmi. Lakshmi pooja on the day of Diwali or Dhanteras, without the Puja of Lord Kubera, is deemed incomplete.
